Called a “Birds’ Nest”. Not as weird as Mustangs with a rumble seat, though. Room for six in a Mustang? WAT

I have never seen this before. Interesting.

I’m pretty sure the Thunderbird rumble seat has leg room for the
penitents in suffering
people in the back. Not so sure on the Mustang. Apparently Studebaker also offered a rumble seat in the Hawk series, and AMC had one on the concept AMX - ‘68 is just about the last appearance of one in a semi-serious vein, then.

Apparently not factory exactly, but factory organized and factory approved. Available at least until ‘69, which is way later than I was aware of any kind of rumble seat being available.

What.

Don’t lie, having a punishment seat would be really useful. Especially if you have three kids and they fight too much in the back seat of the Mustang normally. Also, these means the ability to store live hookers in the trunk. A REVELATION.

I almost like it and almost want it.

The Mustang was actually in ‘69, so that’s past the AMX concept. The last hurrah.

What I think of when I hear “Bird’s Nest”.

I usually just think of “Birdcage”.

sounds similar to the baby seats dealers were fitting to c2 corvettes:

That is news to me very interesting

Hmmm. Okay.

Sitting directly on top of the gas tank seems perfectly safe. Seriously, the trunk “floor” is just the top of the gas tank on these.

I think you’d have other issues to worry about in an accident bad enough to goose the gas tank. Like, a broken neck and the rumble lid crushed into your spine, and no legs.

All good points. Although I think having no legs was a requirement to get in that seat in the first place.

TIL I’m not as much of an Old Ford fanboi as I thought I was.
